Yellow Fever Creek Preserve (YFCP) was acquired as two parcels, totaling 339.4 acres, in 2001. YFCP is located in northern Lee County and northeast Cape Coral, within Sections 20, 28, 29 and 30 of Township 43 South, Range 24 East. YFCP is on the boundary of North Fort Myers and Cape Coral, west of US 41. The Preserve is bordered by Del Prado Boulevard on the west and north sides. On the south and east sides the property borders a LCEC transmission easement and single family residential communities. The eastern parcel is east of and contiguous to the proposed northern extension of NE 24th Avenue. The public access is currently located on NE 24th Ave.

A housing community is currently under development to the east of the Preserve along Del Prado. The future site for the Academic Village, a planned development for educational and recreational facilities, is opposite Del Prado Boulevard to the southwest of YFCP. Most of the surrounding lands are proposed for intensive urban development. The Preserve will be co-managed with the City of Cape Coral's adjacent northern property and plans exist to develop public facilities which will include parking, hiking trails, historic farm, camping, dog park, picnic area, and equestrian trails.

The Preserve consists of forested uplands, dry prairie, pine flatwoods and freshwater herbaceous wetlands. Melaleuca and other invasive plants are found in many areas throughout the Preserve. Portions of the headwaters of Yellow Fever Creek are found on the property.
